peter kruder und rodney hunter sind seit jahrzehnten buddies, sie wuchsen in derselben nachbarschaft wiens auf. somit ist eine kollaboration der zwei jungs längst Überfällig. die story wurde konkreter, als sich peter (15) und rodney (13) häufiger in peters heim trafen, um zu jammen und ihre musikalischen erzeugnisse, ein gemisch aus james brown, gary newman und sogar bauhaus, auf kassette aufzunehmen, mit spezieller kruder/ hunter handschrift. kurze zeit später schrieben die beiden musikgeschichte mit ihren kommenden neuen projekten. die beiden verloren sich auch jahre später nie aus den augen und treffen sich regelmäßig, um in alten zeiten zu schwelgen, als sie das tape deck rockten. inspiriert durch eines dieser gespräche wollten sie nun wieder gemeinsam musik erschaffen, einzig mit dem ziel, das einst begonnene mit dem damaligen spirit und den ideen aus jenen zeiten zu ende zu bringen. das resultat dieser jüngsten jam-sessions sind zwei fantastische tracks, das spektakuläre this is what you get und der Überwältigende tune namens addicted to ganja.

peter croce takes the baton back from blair french for rocksteady disco’s 9th release entitled agape. its vision is similar to standing still is an illusion, with peter’s unique take on this afro­brazilian deep house three­tracker.

brand new detroit duo man vs indian man comprises ian finkelstein (of scott grooves’s overdubs fame) and even haywood. complementing each other’s strengths, the pair make the perfect match as they pour out thick viscously barbed future soul in thick gooey doses, both “ice accountant” and “cloud nine” are wrapped in foggy layers of sleepy textures as the falsetto vocals and lean instrumentation cut through with dreamy delight. remixes from the legendary egyptian lover (cosmic electro), fellow detroitian pontchartrain (filtered disco house) and brazilian table daddy (lolloping dream tech).

physician by day, musician by night, moonlighter makes his production debut after steadily holding down rocksteady disco labelmate duties. “give us rain (ah mila)” begins the 12” beautifully, blending ethereal african samples with moonlighter’s own melodic and percussive performance. “kinematic” kicks off the flip on a more cosmic and tech­y tip, with bubbly synth stabs and drums. “a certain average kind of normal experience” closes out this opus with a massive peak hour bassline, emotive synthesis, and a vocal sample from everybody’s favorite uk philosopher. the moonlighter ep is a culmination of his diverse production and digging ethos by blending the percussive with the melodic, the peak hour with the subdued, and the head with the heart.

hilltown disco are back with another attention-grabbing release. the a-side sees the return of the duo who can do-no-wrong, crossmods with an electro-masterclass that takes you on an out-of-this-world journey, followed by a clean-cut, snappy remix of the crossmods track by the belgium act, datawave. flip-over the record and we have acid-genius chris moss acid contributing a re-mastered version of his beautifully-chaotic acidic-banger, the mossquito. continuing the acid theme, dundee producer ansata gives us a real 303 work-out that is guaranteed to fill any dance floor. last but not least, crossover network join the hilltown disco family with a high energy, banger with an iconic old-school electro vocal though out to complete the release.

the german boogie compilation “boogie on the mainline” presents a selection of 10 rare disco tracks from germany plus one more tune from austria, all of them, originally released between 1980 and 1987. check! . the fully licenced album contains little known tunes by groups like imagination (which you can also see on the cover of the lp), squish, upstairs, the poptown syndicate and more. as the boogie-ish post-disco side of german music history still basically remains undiscovered as of yet, “boogie on the mainline” hopefully will shed some light again on 11 rare gems that were mainly published on small or private labels. the album is released on loudly pressed double vinyl with gatefold jacket on the new artless cuckoo sister label boogie on the mainline records. it includes extensive liner notes by compiler john raincoatman aka dj scientist.

mang dynasty are the collective force of bill brewster and ray mang. both should need no introduction! together they combine to form the mighty mang dynasty, and deliver crash the box a riot of afrobeat, house and disco stylings, laced expertly with horn stabs and vocal chops, guaranteed to light up any club or festival stage. on the remixes are two exciting up and coming producers currently making waves: lord leopard offers a chunky, abstract bumping house version that s good for the floor. tee mango takes a loopy disco excursion, with squelchy synth stabs and party starting vocal.

after making a promising start with their first installment, disco pocho return with a second round of expertly selected, sliced and segued groovers from the parties of yesteryear. javi frias is the cat on the buttons this time around, taking two loose and limber disco funk burners and giving them just the right subtle touch to set the place alight. its a shame has an easy tempo, but there s more than enough heat embedded in the looped up slices frias gets busy with it s a dense, rugged and rock-tinged sound that should please brass construction fans. on the flip, you got what i need turns things up with a powerful, diva-led gem that s heavy on the one, just like it should be.

the third ep on the label is by newcomer vegetable disco, who delivered five searing hot cuts that will probably melt your turntable. expect spicy and sharp percussion grooves, and the grooviest leads. bring it to the club and turn it up!

having hallmarked their success through their ability to showcase the hottest talents in dance music, whilst being renowned for curating some of the finest compilations over the years, londons finest party collective, future disco now offers a warm welcome to gimbrère to the imprint. the young dutchman steps up to the plate with his heavy weighted disco weapon, a thing, seeing ava regular jordan on the remix duty. kicking things off, gimbrere teases with a series of sweet melodic disco grooves under a booming range of 808 kicks, slowly sweeping off the filters to let the passionate vocal howls let loose and tear through the speakers. coupled with thunderous crashes and well deserved breakdowns, this track is without a doubt some real peak time business from the flying dutchman. on the flipside, jordan lays one down for the early hours, switching up the beat into a trashy hi-hat affair, making room for a wobbly old school bass and synthline to playfully glide along with the sam-ple hooks. two completely different, yet equally as satisfying cuts, rounding off what is yet again an-other quality release from the future disco crew.
